Stop Illegal Trade

Snow leopard in mountains

Illegal wildlife trade drives poaching and threatens the survival of iconic wild species. This not only throws nature off balance but also increases the transmission risk of zoonotic diseases among humans.

The demand for certain species as exotic pets, for food consumption, clothing, black magic and their perceived medicinal value has made it the fourth largest illegal trade globally. But we are fighting back.

You can help us put an end to this organised crime—with technology, tools and training.

The Wide Net of Illegal Wildlife Trade:

Up to 450 snow leopards killed every year around the world

700,000 birds trapped illegally in India every year

Nearly 1 million pangolins trafficked in the last decade globally

1 million seahorses caught annually for aquariums

Over 2,350 tigers seized in 2000-18 across 32 countries & territories

Over 1 lakh tortoises & turtles illegally traded in India in 2009-19

Your support will help WWF-India:

Organise specialised training of wildlife law enforcement officers

Train sniffer dogs to detect and deter wildlife crime

Distribute Deep Search Metal Detectors that detect snares and traps used by poachers

Provide forensic field kits to forest departments to collect evidence

Launch awareness campaigns to curb demand
